The steering committee for the development of Payson Pool represented many of the community’s key user groups — children, parents, senior citizens, the local swim team, city leaders and physical therapists from the local medical center. This inclusive process resulted in a facility designed to accommodate everyone from children to seniors, and from competitive athletes to the special-needs population.
While the leisure pool has an abundance of entertaining features for families and kids, the six-lane competition pool is intended for more-serious activities like lap swimming and team practices. The pool area also includes a lifeguard house and offi ce, two family changing rooms, men’s and women’s changing rooms, a ticketing offi ce and a concessions area. Located adjacent to the pool, a skate park was planned and designed with in-depth input from serious skate enthusiasts to engage and attract a different segment of the community. Payson’s active youth population now has a place to socialize. Although the skate park demographic asserts that they do not ne ration was maintained between the six-lane competition pool and the leisure pool. Although the skate park demographic asserts that they do not need parental supervision, the park is situated close enough to the pool so parents can view both. A manageable level of separation was maintained between the six-lane competition pool and the leisure pool.
