Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center
Project Update: February 2009
Have you ever thought about what’s under the pool your swimming in? Well, I never gave it much thought either - I just took it for granted that I would always enjoy clean warm water. During a construction tour of the Kroc leisure and competition pools this week, I was continually amazed at all the piping, drains, pumps, valves and tanks that it takes to support a modern pool complex. I have no experience in operating pools, but I have developed a greater appreciation for the experts on our design and construction team who are making sure the Kroc Center has the best technology and operating equipment we can afford.
Recently, I introduced you to some of our new staff who will help operate and manage the affairs of the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center. We will continue to advertise and hire new staff over the next 6 months. There are a variety of full and part time positions in the areas of sports, fitness, aquatics, maintenance, business services, program coordination and building attendants. You can find out more about staff positions and how to apply by going to our web site at www.salemkroc.org <http://www.salemkroc.org/> and clicking on “Team”. The web site is also a great place to learn more about the Kroc Center and what it will mean to our community.
Each week we receive a project update and site tour, usually narrated by Steve Schaad, the project superintendent for LCG Pence Construction. Steve is hard driven, task oriented and always pushes us for information he needed yesterday. Steve’s update this week reported that painting in the chapel, gym, cabanas and competition pool is being completed. He also reported the benches in the outdoor amphitheater are being poured and the walls for the leisure pool are 90% complete. There’s a lighter side to Steve which helps when unexpected events occur, like the two weeks of snow and freezing weather in December. My thanks to Steve and the other LCG Pence staff, Jason, Cory and Wendy who always respond quickly to my needs.
