The newly opened Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Taree NSW, has proved to be an outstanding success for the people of Taree and surrounding areas. With huge attendances during the Olympic school holidays.
The Greater Taree City Council with active input from the New Pool Committee appointed Peter Hunt Architects to design a new facility with all the modern trimmings and inclusions which are an important part of today’s Aquatic and Leisure Centres.
The facilities include:
· An indoor 25 metre competition and program pool
· Leisure pool with a beach entry
· Water Slide
· various water features
· Spa pool
· Steam room
· 50 metre competition and water polo pool
· Gymnasium, aerobics room and crèche
The MYRTHA 50m Pool
In addition to supply and installation of the Myrtha pool, Swimplex were appointed as the filtration and water treatment specialists. This involved the placement of some 800 metres of PVC pressure pipe of various sizes, below concrete and ground for reticulation and a further 200 metres above ground linking pumps, filtration and water treatment.
Hi-rate pressure sand filters are used for all pools, with automatic sampling, analysing and dosing of sodium hypochlorite together with fullstream ultra violet for disinfection. The outdoor 50 metre pool is the first Myrtha Technology pool installed in NSW. Swimplex are the approved installers for eastern Australia, with other recent 50 metre installations at Wyndham (VIC) and Runaway Bay (QLD).
A Myrtha pool offers reduced construction time with significant labour savings during construction. Myrtha pools offer a number of benefits to pool operators, including reduced maintenance costs, reduced chemical costs, and easier cleaning. The Taree 50 metre pool conforms to FINA rules for both swimming and water-polo.
Aquatic Centre Facilities 
With Australia's success in both swimming and water polo at the Sydney Olympics, this new 50 metre pool is sure to develop and train our future champions from the Greater Taree area. Swimplex supplied and installed one of their Spaform commercial wetdeck spas. The model chosen for Taree is a Vesuvius 10 person spa, featuring 30 different adjustable hydrojets and full perimeter airjets.
Swimplex supplied their world class pool wetdeck grating, curved for the leisure pool and rigid for the 25 and 50 metre pools, Swimplex lane ropes and start platforms were also supplied for both pools. Swimplex also designed and installed the water slide - an 800 diameter tube slide, that starts indoors goes outside and returns back inside to a splash pool that is part of the leisure pool.
